The Filtration Core: It contains a ceramic honeycomb substrate (usually cordierite) designed to physically trap soot particles while allowing clean gases to pass through.

EPA07/EPA10 Design: Since the ISM and QSM engines were prominent during the EPA 2007 and 2010 eras, this module is built to meet those specific backpressure and filtration efficiency requirements.

Sensor Integration: The module has dedicated ports for Temperature Sensors and Pressure Taps. The ECM uses these to measure the pressure drop across the filter to determine when a regeneration (burn-off) is needed.

Maintenance: Because ash from engine oil eventually fills the small channels in the filter, this 11L module requires periodic professional cleaning (pneumatic and thermal) to prevent engine derate.

High Exhaust Backpressure: This is the primary indicator. The module becomes so clogged with ash or soot that the engine struggles to push exhaust through. You will notice a significant drop in power and throttle response.

Frequent Regeneration Requests: If the truck completes a parked regeneration but the "DPF Full" light returns within a few hours of driving, the filter is likely at its ash limit. Professional cleaning or replacement is required.

Black Smoke from Tailpipe: A functioning DPF should trap all visible soot. If you see black smoke, the internal ceramic core is cracked or compromised, allowing raw soot to bypass the filter.

Oil or Coolant Soaking: If the engine has an internal leak (e.g., a blown head gasket or turbo seal), fluid can soak the DPF. This "contaminates" the module, often rendering it impossible to clean.

Specific Fault Codes:

• Code 1921: DPF Differential Pressure - Data Valid but Above Normal Operating Range (Soot level high).

• Code 1922: DPF Differential Pressure - Data Valid but Above Normal (Severe).

Melted Ceramic Core: If the upstream DOC fails and allows raw fuel to pool in the DPF, it can cause an uncontrolled "thermal event" that melts the ceramic substrate.
