She took classical lessons at the Juilliard School and began singing in bars to pay for her lessons, and in 1959 made her debut on Bethlehem Records to bring her rich voice to the public. In the 1960s, she also participated in the black civil rights movement.Her voice and sound have transcended time and continue to attract many fans today, with Lauryn Hill and others covering her songs. Her memorable first album "Little Girl Blue" from 1959, which is highly acclaimed as an immortal masterpiece, has now been reborn in a new stereo mix, once again bringing her moving voice to the world. The new stereo mix was first digitally distributed in June for African American Music Appreciation Month, and will be released in August in three formats: CD, 180-gram vinyl analog, and 180-gram clear blue analog. The stereo mix was done by four-time Grammy Award winner Michael Graves, and the remastering for analog was done by the masterful Kevin Gray. Rock Hall of Famer Nina Simone's memorable debut, "Little Girl Blue," was released in February 1959 on Bethlehem Records.Nina Simone was in her mid-twenties at the time and aspiring to be a classical concert pianist, and this album, which brought her expressive piano and rich, even spiritual voice to the world, has been loved beyond time as a truly enduring masterpiece. The album includes the U.S. Top 20 hit "I Love You, Porgy," "My Baby Just Cares for Me" and "Mood Indigo," which was used in a 1987 commercial for Chanel No. 5. 4-time Grammy Award-winner Michael Graves' newest stereo recording, "I Love You, Porgy," was released in 1987. The CD features the latest stereo mix by four-time Grammy Award winner Michael Graves, and includes a newly written essay by Daphne Brooks, best known for her book "Liner Notes For The Revolution".
