A new production gives Rossini's last comic opera a youthful breath of life! Count Ory, a young womanizing lord, lives as a hermit in a cave, where he listens to the problems of the women who visit him and enjoys their good graces. His guardian, ordered by his father to find him, spots "the hermit" but is unable to discover his true identity. In 1824, Rossini was invited to Paris and signed a contract with the French government to write a new opera. First, he composed the successful "Journey to Rheims" and then "The Count of Orly". Although much of the music was adapted from "A Journey to Reims," Rossini's colorful orchestration of the ridiculous script in which Count Ory seduces the Countess Adele as she awaits her husband's return from a crusade made this opera one of Rossini's outstanding comedic operas. The film brings together the best Rossini singers at the Malmö Opera House, which has been attracting attention for its innovative productions, to breathe fresh life into Rossini's last comic opera under the lively baton of Tobias Lingborg.
