Kentucky is known as the World’s Horse Capital and the Thoroughbred industry goes through a lot of feed hay. Traditionally, hay is stored in the hayloft above the stables and workers drop the hay into the feed basket using a chute system. Our Hayloft Mantel pays tribute to the simple, but important function of the hayloft in our equestrian traditions.
Horses need to eat about 15-20 pounds of hay, per day, to stay healthy and well fed. That’s a “lot of hay”; about 3 tons per year. The hayloft is the ideal storage solution to keep the hay close to your horses and out of the weather.
That’s why most of the stables in Kentucky have a hayloft and why we chose to recognize this innovation in our Bluegrass Collection of mantels.
Our Hayloft Mantel pays tribute to the simple, but important function of the hayloft in our equestrian traditions. The Hayloft mantel is modeled directly from a hand-hewn beam with a cross-section of 8” deep, and 5.375” tall at the wall edge, providing plenty of space to display your trophies. Features include rough-hewn tool marks, dowel ends, nail holes, checks & splits, and character knots.
The Hayloft Beam Mantel comes in five hand-painted color varieties, each presenting their own charm and character. Shop our color samples to find the perfect finish for your project. Custom colors are available - we have over 150 colors in our factory that can match almost any color in the spectrum.
If you need a custom length for the Hayloft Beam Mantel, it can be made between 60” and 72”, or below 60” upon request. For lengths above 72 inches, an extension and decorative brackets can be used to achieve the desired size.
