Description:

Mokomba, the young Zimbabwean group that released "Luyando - Mother's Love" (Rice OHR-5436) in 2017 to great acclaim, makes its triumphant return after a six-year absence. The group has returned after a six-year absence with a new Afro-pop album that is even more upbeat than its predecessor. The songs on this album deal with themes of love, loss, and courage in a changing society, and are performed in a variety of languages. While the previous album featured mainly acoustic arrangements, this new album is a return to the band's original sound, with electric instruments and drum sets. The sound of the band incorporates traditional Batonga and Chimurenga music, rumba congolese, Zulu music, highlife, and Afrobeat styles, as well as Pan-African music. The band's improved sound makes the music even more appealing, and on some songs, members of the Ghanaian highlife group "Santrofi" participate as guests, providing a wonderful brass section. (C)RS
