Ballet & Dances Classical
Description:
The Scottish Ballet's new dance film "Starstruck," winner of the Best Dance Film Award at the 22nd National Dance Awards (British Critics Circle Awards) in 2022, is now available as an early package. The film is based on the ballet "Pas de Dieu" (Dance of the Gods) choreographed for the Paris Opera Ballet in 1960 by Gene Kelly, the Hollywood star of "Singin' in the Rain," with a prologue that describes the human characters of the ballet company's choreographer, star ballerinas, and pianist, and an epilogue that is a meta-drama. The meta-drama (play-within-a-play) is created by adding a prologue and an epilogue describing the personalities of the ballet company's choreographer, star ballerinas and pianists. The result is a dance work with a contemporary twist. The prologue is based on George Gershwin's masterpiece "Piano Concerto in F major," which is used in "Pas de Dieu," and the music of "Les Sylphides," a ballet arranged from Chopin's piano music, to create a vivid stage performance combining jazzy dance and classical ballet.
