Description:
The "Martineau Quartet," whose ensemble name is based on the great Czech composer Martineau, was founded in 1976 by students of the Prague Conservatory and changed its name to its current name in 1985 with the permission of the Martineau Foundation. The quartet is dedicated to performing and promoting not only Martinů's works but also those of Dvořák, Eben, and other Czech composers. This album contains two string quartets: the "Kreutzer Sonata," with a series of frenzied sounds that are said to depict the inner life of the hero, and "The Secret Letter," which reflects Janacek's state of mind in his later years. They feature beautiful string sounds. Naxos Japan
