The Harley-Davidson part number 68317-01 is the Smart Siren, an optional accessory for the factory security system.

It is also commonly referred to as part number 68317-01A. 

This part is designed for 1997–2001 Touring models.

• Security alert: The Smart Siren provides an audible alarm in addition to the standard visual alarm (flashing turn signals) of the factory security system.
• Self-powered mode: The siren contains a rechargeable internal battery. If the motorcycle's battery is disconnected, the siren can continue to sound for a set number of cycles. 

• Purpose: The Smart Siren adds an audible alarm to the visual alarm (flashing turn signals) of the factory security system.
• Back-up power: The unit contains a rechargeable 9-volt NiMH battery that serves as a self-powered back-up.
• Tamper-proof design: If the motorcycle's battery is disconnected or the wires are cut, the internal back-up power supply allows the siren to continue operating for a set number of cycles.
• Activation: The siren will activate if someone attempts to tamper with the ignition switch or move the motorcycle while the security system is armed.
• Confirmation: The siren chirps twice upon arming the system and again upon disarming it, providing an audible confirmation.

• Vehicle compatibility: This siren is specifically designed for 1997–2001 Harley-Davidson Touring models that are equipped with the factory security system.
• Requires existing security system: This is an optional accessory and will only work when paired with an existing Harley-Davidson Factory Security System or Smart Security System.
