Mammut's 3rd generation of avalanche airbag packs is lighter than ever before. A more comfortable carry and additional winter-specific features dial up the desire to wear this safety gear, which was Mammut's objective in making changes for the 2016-17 season.

This avalanche airbag pack is so small and light (about 1.2 kg with cartridge) that you will barely notice it on long ski tours or out freeriding. The carrying system is more comfortable due a slimming down and softening of the shoulder straps and hip belt. The system is also better integrated into the pack so it won't interfere with your daily tasks.

In an emergency, the Pro Protection Airbag 3.0 System unfolds protectively around the head, neck and chest area, increasing your chances of survival in two respects: offering the best possible protection from burial and from life-threatening trauma injuries. This is the same as before, yet now the air volume amplifier and deployment mechanism are brought together in a single housing in order to save space and weight. The gas cartridge inflation system is reliable, low-maintenance and extremely user friendly — just screw the cartridge in and you’re ready to go.

Studies have shown that  many users are overchallenged and do not manage to activate the airbag. Mammut's new deployment handle is more intuitive to operate and is also height-adjustable to allow it to be adapted to the wearer’s body height. The color of both the deployment handle and the airbag have been changed to bright orange to increase visibility. Mammut also added a Trigger Test Tool that allows you to carry out deployments without a cartridge so that you can practice.
