John Tower is widely regarded as one of the most important American composers of our time. This album features five world premiere recordings of his works. Strike Zone" and "Small" were written for world-renowned percussionist Evelyn Glennie and highlight her superb technique and musicianship. The "Small" was written for a percussionist (Glennie) who is always busy carrying and preparing her many instruments, using only as many as she can fit into a small carrying case, requiring the player to move like a chef cooking at a small table. The work requires the player to move like a chef cooking at a small table. The piano concerto "Still/Rapids" is a beautifully contrasting work inspired by the beautiful, shining, powerful force of water, while "Ivory and Ebony," commissioned by the San Antonio International Piano Competition in 2009, is an exuberant solo piano piece.
