On this album, we find Swans frequently using short, repetitive drum patterns, blaring and droning guitars and horns, and Gira’s deep, ominous voice to create a hypnotic and powerful sound. We hear chaotic and dissonant strings and horns while guitar noise tears away in the cacophony.  This intense sound, coupled with the themes of suicide and religion make this album a very captivating experience. While no part of this album explicitly reminds of the destructive and grim atmosphere provided by their earliest records, their use of repetition can still be traced back to their harsh beginnings.
