Years ago, I would occasionally find golden cigar silk quilts, which sadly have since become some precious I can never nab them anymore. But even better to my eye, here a little "quilt" made of white silk ribbons with red crosses, stitched together to form a sort of checkerboard of crosses. The ribbons are masonic, produced on the occasion of the 6th Annual Colonial Ball at the Hopewell Lodge, Feb 22, 1915. (F. and A.M stands for Free and Accepted Masons.)
15” x 15” longest (14 5/8” shortest). This is delicate, and shows a few threadbare patches, toning, lost stitches, etc. but I personally think all the more beautiful for them all, lending a sort of added resonances to those red crosses. A gentle steaming should mostly press out the old fold lines and wrinkles.
