I found this one at Brimfield, in a pile along with two wonderful hand-painted tintypes I sold last week. An albumen photo I believe, with a clarity and quality of detail that is just fantastic--and makes these women, their house and trees--and chickens!--feel almost surreally vivid and alive. I've always got an eye out for things that feel like inspiration for a novel yet to be written, and this photograph feels like that to me. On reverse, an attribution: Grandmother Kingsland in front of homestead on north side of Post Road. (Post Road likely referring to Boston Post Road, a system of mail-delivery routes between NYC and Boston, which evolved into one of the first major highways in the United States.)
8" x 6 1/8", photo mounted to card, with a bit of the card visible around the edges, as documented. Good antique condition.
