22-inch hand-carved banam sarangi, carved in the gomira style and re-imagined as a wall decor piece.
This unique piece is a collector's item and makes for a great conversation starter.
The uniquely sculpted dhodro banam or banam sarangi is a string instrument used in traditional gomira dances, ritualistic dances performed to appease village deities and the forces of nature in West Bengal and other parts of eastern India.
With this tradition dying out, artisans creating gomira artifacts have begun repurposing the banam as wall decor.
Today, only around 200 artisans and their families still make these items. We aim to work with them to present more of their traditional designs as part of our wall decor range.
