I find this type of whimsy--composed of hundreds of individually carved wooden bits, each one sliding through the a slit in the center of next and locking in place--quite amazing, and I don't come across them very often, especially one still forming a complete loop like this. (And, well constructed, it seems in no jeopardy of coming apart.) One finds examples fancier than this, with the pieces more ornately carved in a "Crown of Thorns" sort of manner, but here's one for the minimalist; the Danish modern of interlocking whimsies! I have seen a couple of 19th century examples with the same shape to the bits of wood; I am not completely certain the age on this one but do believe likely antique (100 years) or at least pretty nearly so. 

10 1/4" d x 1 7/8" t. Very good condition, sturdy and sound, with a few dark stains to the blonde wood here and there as pictured.
