Bronze bowl 230mm H x 225mm Diameter
John Tullett is a former art teacher with a bachelor of Fine Arts. His bronze casting technique is a careful, multi-step process. Each piece begins as a wax model coated in layers of ceramic shell. The wax is melted out, and the mould is fire-cured. Bronze is heated to 1150°C in a gas-fired furnace and poured into the mould. As it cools, the shell breaks away. The casting is then fettled with files and sandpaper, and chased to refine surface textures and correct imperfections. After partial polishing and colouring with copper-reactive chemicals, a protective wax is applied. John works in batches of ten to twelve, with each batch requiring approximately sixty hours to complete.
John Tullett's decorative bowls are not food-safe and should be cleaned with a soft, dry cotton cloth.
