Dood van de dwaze aanklager, 1593
Jan Collaert (II)
In a dramatic scene set within a cave, the Foolish Accuser, known as Litigiosus, is captured on his deathbed, exhaling his final breath. The embodiment of Litigation, Lis, hovers above him with devilish wings, ready to snatch his soul. Poverty (Pauperies) and Guilty Conscience (Conscientia Mala) are seen digging his grave, where hellfire ominously burns. This print includes three inscriptions in Latin and Dutch and is part of an eight-part series exploring the abuses in litigation.
