There are a number of compounds which may be isolated from Ginkgo biloba. Terpene lactones account for 6% and Ginkgo-flavone glycosides account for 24%. Ginkgo-flavone glycosides inhibit a substance called Platelet Activating Factor (PAF), which is responsible for platelet aggregation and clot formation. PAF is also involved in many inflammatory and allergic reactions.
